This is gonna hurt, its 35 out right now on wednesday morning in Frederic, snow is very squishy expecially compared to the supreme conditions that we had yesterday. LIght drizzle in the air and the weather for the next couple days makes things very confusing on what will actually happen. They still had a high of 64 for tommorow in the predictions but then cooler friday with drizzle/ lake effect snow and still cooler for the weekend. Several people have wrote me and asked what I think the weekend will be like. Its too tough to call right now. We have had rain and warm ups several times this winter and things werent that bad afterwards especially when it firmed up. Best I can do is keep you posted. Yesterdays ride was absolutleley supreme and perfect conditions. Chubby Roger, River Park Campground Rich and I headed out of Frederic about 9:30 yesterday morning and headed south on trail 679, to 76 to Moorestown. Perfectly groomed and flat with very little sled traffic, I havent been to Moorestown in years. From there we headed west on 6 towards Fife Lake where we didnt pass on sled in 50 miles. Stopped at a shooting range where we watched a guy doing long range shooting….quite a process there, it was right along the trail. 1000 yard shot is a long ways. At Fife Lake there were some sleds parked there at Gordys along with 2 guys from Kalamazoo that had been in here on Monday and it was them that made me think to ride down that way. Pic of us below and I am glad he said that to me. Several times over the winter I have heard that trails are great that way as people dont tend to ride south of M 72 from the west parking lot out by the location formally know as Dingmans. Fife Lake to Kalkaska another 25 miles of not passing one sled on still perfect trails. The next part not so hot as I knew that would be rough as we ditch banged CR 612 from burger king all the way past manistee lake to sunset trail as there is no trail to cover that part, but we lived and then back to Frederic, a nine hour 178 mile picture perfect ride. Yesterday was the day to do it as it has certainly changed today. Pics below , a little junior sledhead in here this morning sporting a polar vortex shirt as a blankie…….Other pics from our ride. Thanks for checking in and do some cold chanting for us. Pete
