WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY this afternoon and tonight for the Lower Peninsula south of a line from Alpena to Manistee. Several inches of snow will make traveling slower than usual.
Snow moves back into the region today. It’ll be light and scattered in the eastern Upper Peninsula. But in the Lower Peninsula it will be widespread. The heavier snow totals for today and tonight will be from Alpena to Manistee and southward. In this area up to 8 inches of snow is possible. Temperatures have fallen. Highs today will be mostly in the 20s. A few towns will see 30 degrees. Wind will be noticeable. Not as strong as yesterday, but gusts to 25 mph will blow the snow around. It’ll come from the north or northeast.
Tonight…snow in the Lower…maybe a few light snow showers in the U.P. The wind gusting to 25 mph will blow it around and create visibility issues for drivers. Low temperatures will plummet. Lows will be from zero to 8 degrees in the U.P…and from 8 to 22 degrees in the Lower. With the wind, wind chills will be below zero at times.
Friday. Most of the snow is gone, but early in the day you could see an inch or two of additional snow near Lake Michigan. Lake effect will develop for a while. The sky in the U.P. will be mostly sunny. Call it mostly cloudy in the Lower, but some sun will break thru in the afternoon. Highs will range from 18 to 28 degrees. Wind 5 to 15 mph from the north or northwest.
Friday night the sky will clear…and it will be beautiful…but will be very cold. Temperatures will range from 10 to 22 degrees, but wind gusts to 30 mph will make it feel much colder.
Saturday…mostly cloudy. Highs mainly in the 30s. Wind 10 to 20 mph.
